Christmas Day

My Stocking Presents :)

So yesterday was my first christmas away from home...so strange! So the allotted time to get up was 8-Andrew wanted to sleep in or something :). Once I woke up I face-timed the family, all of which were up at grandma and grandads for dinner-great timing :) and at 8am exactly, walked down the hall and into Andrew and Sonia's room. Santa had been :) admittedly, the night before the stockings were already filled, but it was fun all the same. We opened our stockings and ordered a room service breakfast before heading across the road to St Johns church.


This church is amazing! So completely different to Lincoln road, there are huge stained glass windows, amazing ceilings and a choir-very traditional. The service started with carols (sung by both the whole congregation and some by just the choir) and readings of the Christmas story. After this part of the service, one of the priests gave the sermon, a great reminder to all of us how we can share the true meaning of Christmas and encourage everyone in their journeys. This was a really good start to Christmas Day and I really enjoyed this completely different experience.

After this, we went down for coffee and then christmas lunch at the brasserie. To start I had beetroot, goats cheese and caramelised walnut salad, for the main, whole Dover sole with brown shrimps and caviar butter, and to finish a quince tart tatin with vanilla ice cream-very sweet, but yummy all the same :).

Once we had lunch, we went for a walk around the town, checking out the calm streets before this mornings Boxing Day madness. During this amble (Andrew walks VERY slowly) we went up to the castle and admired the AMAZING view of Edinburgh, then headed back down the hill again, ate some dinner and went off to bed :).
